MDes in XR Design is the new course at IIT Jodhpur that has turned the cynosure of all eyes. IITs are known to be one of the finest institutions to study engineering.

However, that notion is changing as they are introducing courses from other streams also. Today, IITs are known to offer academic programs from science, arts, humanities and management streams also.

IIT Jodhpur has now introduced a new course, MDes in XR Design which will address the growing need of the industry to create useful, engaging and socially relevant This is said to be the first of its kind program in any IIT.

What is XR Design?

XR (Extended Reality) Design is the process of designing and creating immersive experiences that use XR technology. XR design encompasses a variety of disciplines, including 3D modelling, user interface design, game design, and interaction design.

XR designers are responsible for creating immersive experiences that are visually appealing, intuitive, and engaging.

They work closely with developers, artists, and other professionals to create XR experiences that meet the needs of users. XR Designing has applications in education and training, entertainment, marketing and advertising and others.

Who can apply for MDes in XR Design?

Candidates willing to apply for MDes in XR Design have to pass bachelors in Design, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design.

Candidates who have passed BFA or Professional Diploma course in Design (10+2+4 years) can also apply. Also, students who have passed masters in arts, science or computer applications can also apply.

Applicants for MDes in XR Design must also pass CEED 2023 exam with a good score in addition to passing the above mentioned qualifying exams.

Seats and selection

MDes in XR Design has 20 institute sponsored seats and 5 self sponsored seats. The selection criteria for these two types of seats is different. Process is mentioned below for both the categories:

Institute sponsored seats
These seats of MDes in XR Design will be filled based on CEED score (80% weightage) and Statement of Purpose (20% weightage) which is submitted along with the application.

Self sponsored seats
These seats of MDes in XR Design will be filled based on portfolio and statement of purpose documents which will be submitted along with the application. Performance in the online interview will also be taken into account for selecting the students.

Dates

The application submission for MDes in XR Design under both categories will start on 1 May 2023. The last day to submit an application for MDes in XR Design (institute sponsored) is 21 May 2023.

Those applying for MDes in XR Design (self-sponsored application on or before 14 May 2023. These dates have to be kept in mind while applying for MDes in XR Design.

Candidates can type the URL above into the browser and then wait for the webpage to download. They read all the details about MDes before applying.

They have to click the Admission page on the website and read the instructions and scroll down the webpage and click the link for submitting the application to MDes in XR Design course.

Another webpage with URL ‘https://oa.iitj.ac.in/PG_ADMISSION/’ will open where the registration button has to be clicked to create an account comprising username and password.

After creating the account, candidates can log in and fill out the application for MDes in XR Design. They must also submit the required documents along with the application.

After application

Candidates who have applied for MDes will be called for further process at the appropriate time.
