22 researchers from IIT Guwahati have found place among the world’s top 2 percent scientists list created by Stanford University and was released on 16 October this year in the journal PLOS.

The 22 researchers from IIT Guwahati who featured in the world’s top 2 percent scientist list were faculties at IIT Guwahati and belong to various scientific areas like Departments of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Biosciences and Bioengineering, Chemistry, Electrical and Electronics.

The 22 researchers from IIT Guwahati led by Professor T.G. Sitharam, director of IIT Guwahati have been ranked for their research publications, citation for 2019 and their lifetime contribution to their scientific fields of research.

The report which also features 22 researchers from IIT Guwahati was prepared by experts at Stanford University and has listed over 100,000 scientists whose published research manuscripts have accelerated progress in their respective fields and influenced the productivity of other researcher’s work as well.

The report which also features 22 researchers from IIT Guwahati on field specific analysis was prepared by Professor John P.A. Loannidis of the Stanford University (USA) and his team and was published in PLOS Biology- prestigious publication forum.

The submitted research journals in PLOS Biology publication get a wide spectrum of readers as the publication focusses on publishing highly selective research papers across the various global research reports.

The database which also features 22 researchers from IIT Guwahati was created to provide updated analyses and a publicly available database of 100,000 top Scientists who provide standardized information on citations, h-index(an index to measure an individual’s scientific research output), co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator.

Such citation metric provides a basis to measure and reflect the impact of a published journal.

Speaking about the 22 researchers from IIT Guwahati who are featured in world’s top scientist list, Professor T.G. Sitharam said this recognition of several faculty in the world’s top 2% of Scientists List has placed IIT Guwahati in the global map of Science and has brought great pride to the Institute.

About IIT Guwahati

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati established in 1994 has completed 25 years of glorious existence in 2019.

At present, the Institute has eleven departments and five inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes.

The Institute offers a residential campus to 412 faculty members and more than 6,000 students at present.

Besides its laurels in teaching and research, IIT Guwahati has been able to fulfil the aspirations of people of the North East region to a great extent since its inception in 1994.
