Vel Tech to organise e-bike challenge – There is a news worth noting with regards to Vel Tech, the well-known educational institution from Tamilnadu. The educational institution is conducting ‘VelTech eBike Challenge 2020′ from 21 to 22 March. The challenge is open to engineering students and is a competition where the engineering and diploma students have to explore their theoretical and technical skills and have to design and make a electric bike.

The competition takes place in two-stages, according to sources. First stage is the design validation stage is known as Virtual Round. The second stage will again have three rounds namely, Static, Dynamic and Endurance Test. The participating teams have the liberty to exhibit their innovation and new finding allied with the rule book. The challenge provides a platform to budding young engineers to exhibit their innovative ideas into reality.

In the first stage, participating team has to explain about vehicle design, prepare design report, cost report and also have a design validation plan and also must undertake design failure mode analysis. The teams have to focus on preparing manufacturing level questionnaires, prepare business plans related to manufacturing of the e-bike during the Static test round in the second stage.

Participants have to perform brake test, acceleration test and Autocross during the Dynamic Test round in the second stage. Last phase of the second stage is the Endurance Round where participants have to do efficiency test and endurance test of their bikes.

Sources further say, the teams that are taking part in the event will be having a team name, logo and a captain and a faculty adviser. The size of the participating team must not have more than 15 members. The students have to design and fabricate the bike without taking direct help from professional engineers.

Participants will also have to submit a video of two minute duration on manufacturing process of the bike, they must also take photos about various stages involved in the manufacturing of the bike.

The vehicle must have two wheels in a straight line. The point of contact between the tires and the road must be symmetrical about the longitudinal center line of the vehicle. The handlebar must control the vehicle. It should control the front wheel and must be attached to the front wheel.

The dimensions of the vehicle to be made are length (should be less than 2000 mm), wheelbase (should be less than 1300 mm), width (should be less than 800 mm) and handlebar height (should be greater than 800 mm).
