Indian Army comes under the Indian armed forces category. The Indian armed forces are also called the military forces of the Republic of India.

There are three uniformed services in the armed forces that are Indian army, the Indian navy, and the Indian Air Force. The Supreme Commander of the Indian armed forces is the President of India.

Eligibility to Join Indian Army

The basic qualification eligibility to join the Indian Army is passing the 12th standard.

10+2 TES Eligibility

  1. Candidates completing Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with at least 70% of marks.
  2. Candidates have to clear the written test & if selected they will have to undergo one year of training at Officers Training Academy (OTA) and four years at Cadet Training Wings.
  3. 16.5 to 19.5 years is the minimum age requirement.

NDA Eligibility

  1. Candidates who have completed class 12th can apply for NDA.
  2. 16.5 to 19.5 years is the minimum age requirement.
  3. Candidates have to clear the written test along with physical and medical tests will have to be cleared then they enter the three years of training at NDA, Khadakwasla, Pune and one year at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
  4. The candidates will also receive a B.Sc or B.A degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University on completing the training.
  5. Also, they will be posted to the Indian Army or Indian Air Force post this.

There are various divisions in which the career in Indian Army is defined. It depends on the qualifications and the skills that the recruitment in these departments is done.

1. Armoured Corps

This department comprises the battalions of tanks and other armoured vehicles. Their work is to fight or capture with the infantry against the enemy territory. During the battle, they also have to defend positions by engaging enemy tanks.

2. Infantry

Infantry is the armed troops that are engaged in fighting with the enemy using automatic rifles, self-loading rifles, machine guns, automatic rifles etc. They have to undergo intensive training in arms handling.

3. Artillery

Artilleries have to work on attacking and defensive operations for which they use long-range field guns, multi-barrel rocket launchers and missiles.

4. Army Engineers

The army engineers are responsible for constructing roads, helipads, airfields, bridges etc so that the Indian armed forces can advance rapidly. Their work also includes destroying the enemy bases and causing obstacles for the advancement of enemy troops.

5. Signal Regiment Officers

They have to quickly maintain and implement the communication links during wartime between the headquarters of the Indian Army and the forward positions. Electronic warfare is also their department.

6. Army Service Corps

The movement of vehicles, troops, arms & ammunitions, etc comes under the department of ASC personnel. Safeguarding the arms, ammunition, food, ration, clothing & special equipment is also under their department.

7. Intelligence Corps

As their name says, they are into the intelligent department. Their work includes collecting the information of the enemy troops. They are also involved in keeping track of their movements or plans.

8. Army Medical Corps

It is the department of the doctors. They are responsible for providing medical aid to the officers of the armed officers.
