IIT Guwahati has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) to promote bilateral cooperation in research, innovation, and academic exchange.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, and Prof. Henrik Bindslev, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, SDU.

Connection
The presence of Mr. Clausen during the event reinforced the academia – industry – government connection, a crucial part for impactful and scalable innovation.
He emphasised the importance of international partnerships in fostering technological breakthroughs and nurturing globally competent talent.

The establishment of a Center of Excellence for Indo-Danish innovation and translational research, at IIT Guwahati

· Joint Master’s and Ph.D. programs with co-supervision and mutual credit recognition
· Student and faculty exchange programs, enabling academic mobility and cross-cultural immersion
· Collaborative research focused on sustainable technologies, energy efficiency, climate technologies, and other areas of mutual interest

Speaking during the MoU signing event, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, said this collaboration reinforces their vision to position IIT Guwahati as a global hub for technology, research, and academic excellence.
‘Together with SDU and through industry engagement, we aim to develop sustainable solutions addressing pressing global challenges.’
It will also actively seek industry participation and financial support to enhance the reach and effectiveness of the programs under this MoU.

Milestone in Indo Danish Alliance
The recent partnership between IIT Guwahati and SDU marks a milestone in the Indo-Danish alliance, which will help in realising the shared commitment of both nations to global sustainability, knowledge exchange, and technological leadership.
IIT G has retained the 7th position among the best engineering institutions of the country, 9th position in ‘Overall’ and 10th position in ‘Research’ Categories in the ‘India Rankings 2024’ declared by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Union Ministry of Education.
IIT G has achieved rank 87 in the SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2024 and is the only academic institution in India that occupied a place among the top 100 world universities – under 50 years of age – ranked by London-based Times Higher Education (THE) in 2014 and continues to maintain its superior position even today in various International Rankings. IIT Guwahati gained rank 32 globally in the ‘Research Citations per Faculty’ category and overall 344 rank in the QS World University Rankings 2025.
Among other frontier areas of research and innovation, IIT G is working towards augmenting critical science research initiatives in Genomics, Developmental Biology, Health Care and Bioinformatics and Flexible Electronics, among numerous other areas.
