IIT Bombay to conduct short term course, IIT Bombay also known as Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is inviting applications from eligible candidates for a short-term course on ‘Human Factors Engineering and Advanced Cognitive Systems Design.’ The course will be conducted at the premises of IIT Bombay from 18 to 22 May.
About the course
The objective behind the course is to introduce the participants to the topics related to Human Factors Engineering and Advanced Cognitive Systems Design (Cognitive Ergonomics/Cognitive Systems Engineering).
The course comprises two modules. The first module involves provides introduction to the field and is spread over two days. In this module, the learners will be introduced to the breadth and scope of Human Factors Engineering .
They will be introduced to methods that are commonly applied by Human Factors experts for analysis. Finally, this module will conclude with discussions of a case-study demonstrating the necessity and viability of Human Factors
Engineering for the design of human-centric systems.
The second module is about advanced cognitive theories, frameworks and methods for systems design. The learners will be introduced to cognitive task analysis methods for understanding cognitive work in technological contexts as well as advanced issues in control panel design.

In addition, the participants will be introduced to challenges of sociotechnical systems and safety-critical systems and advanced concepts related to errors, safety, accidents and resilience.

The learners will have a comprehensive overview of human factors engineering and advanced cognitive systems at the end of these two modules.
Who can do the course
Faculty members of degree level engineering colleges recognized by AICTE can attend the course. Faculties from engineering departments like Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering from recognised colleges located across India can participate.
The venue
The five day course will be organised at Seminar Hall, Jal Vihar Guest House, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Powai, Mumbai-400076. Instructor for the course is Vivek Kant.
How to apply
The procedure for applying is online only. Candidates willing to apply for this have to click the link ‘https://portal.iitb.ac.in/ceqipapp/home.jsp’ must be clicked. After the required page downloads, a window is seen with two buttons.
One button says ‘List CEP/GIAN Courses’ and the other button says ‘List QIP Courses’ Applicants must click List QIP courses. After the page downloads, applicants must scroll it down till the end and click Number 2 in the end.
The required course is seen below the menu ‘September 2020’ in bold black letters. Candidates willing to know more about the course can click ‘view details’ below the name of the course. Applicants willing to apply can click ‘Apply’ and go ahead with the process of applying for the course.
Transportation
Participants are entitled for Second Class (Sleeper Class) or III AC railway fare to and fro by the shortest route from college to IIT Bombay. All participants will be given auto fare from Kanjurmarg/Andheri to IIT on the dates of
arrival and departure.
Local participants will be paid second class railway fare or BEST Bus fare. Boarding and lodging will also be provided free of cost. Accommodation will be provided in the students Hostels or Guest House on sharing basis.

A committee formed by the Government of India recommended the establishment of four higher institutes of technology to set the direction for the development of technical education in the country in 1946.
Planning began in 1957 and the first batch of 100 students was admitted in 1958. Since its establishment in Powai, the institute has physically expanded to include more than 584 major buildings with a combined area of more than 2.2 square kilometers.
