IIT Mandi introduces MS and PhD in Music and Musopathy

IIT Mandi Centre for Indian Knowledge System and Mental Health Application (IKSHMA) is launching M.S. (by research) and PhD programs in Music and Musopathy.

Leveraging the synergies between music, health, and technology can facilitate remarkable advances in both individual and collective well-being. Recognizing this potential, the new course is being launched at IIT Mandi.

This initiative underscores our commitment to promoting interdisciplinary learning and contributing to the highly regarded field of Indian music and the burgeoning field of Musopathy, say sources from IIT Mandi.

The program is open to both full-time and part-time candidates and can be pursued live, online, or in a hybrid format by all qualifying candidates, regardless of geographical location, say sources from IIT Guwahati.

The IKSMHA Centre at IIT Mandi, established in 2022 under the guidance of Director Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, focuses on scientific research and education exploring the interconnectedness of body, mind, and consciousness.

These concepts are deeply rooted in the Indian Knowledge System, and which has several benefits for the human body, mental health, and wellbeing.

The research and teaching under the Centre include IKS areas such as consciousness studies, yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine research, Indian performing arts etc.

The Centre’s research is grounded in the interdisciplinary scientific methods and it would involve several methodologies from cognitive science, neuroscience, computer science, AI / ML, physics, chemistry, biology, and experiment design, among others.

About IIT Mandi

IIT Mandi has nine Academic Schools and five major Research Centers.  The Schools are the School of Biosciences and Bioengineering (SBBE), School of Chemical Sciences (SCS).

The others are School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS), School of Physical Sciences (SPS), School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (SMME).
