NIT Kurukshetra was established in 1963 with the help of the Central Government in consultation with the Planning Commission. The full name of NIT Allahabad is Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology. It is names after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who also laid the foundation of the institute. The college offers 4 post graduate and 9 post graduate programmes. They have 14 different department.

National Institute of Technology Patna is the 18th National Institute of Technology created by the Ministry of Human Resources Development of Government of India after rechristening the erstwhile Bihar College of Engineering Patna on 28 January 2004.
