Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) was established in 1961 by Space scientist Dr Vikram Sarabhai and Industrialist and Philanthropist Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai and in support of then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Dr Jivraj Mehta. IIMA is managed by IIMA Society and run by a Board of Governers constituted by the Society, making it an Autonomous Body. In 2008, it became the first management school in India to be awarded European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accredited by European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).
