SBRR Mahajana First Grade College was established in 1982. It is a constituent part of the Mahajana Education Society (1937). The college is affiliated to the University of Mysore, accredited thrice by the NAAC with Four Star (2001), B++ (2007) and ‘A’ Grade (2015) in First, Second and Third Cycles and recognized by the UGC as College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) during 2010 and 2016. It is one of the few prestigious colleges which was designated as the Lead College by the Government of Karnataka to carry out HRD/TQM related activities in the region. The college started as a Women’s College offering B.A and B.Com programmes and was admitted to the Grant-in-aid scheme in the year 1987, and in 1988 it became a co-educational institution. The college introduced B.Sc. programme in 1988, BBM programme in 1994, followed by Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry combinations in B.Sc. in 2004, BCA degree in 2008. The college started PG programmes in 1999 from a new campus situated five km away from the main campus. The college now offers postgraduate degree and diploma courses in 13 disciplines, which include Computer Application, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, Commerce, Social Work, Chemistry, Economics and Tourism Administration. The college has been granted Community College under the UGC Scheme, offering Diploma in Hospitality & Catering and Diploma in Museology.
