Department of Science and Technology (DST) of Government of India is organising the contest with a great motive and what is it?

AWSAR (Augmenting Writing Skills for Articulating Research) aims to disseminate research stories related to science, technology and innovation in an easily understandable manner to common folk.

The contest in other words, aims to aspire the research scholars or PDFs in the field of science, technology and innovation to hone their writing skills so as to write the work of their research in a manner that would be simple and easily understandable.

Research scholars or PDFs have to write a story about their research work in the field of science, technology and innovation in an easily understandable manner and submit them.

The stories can be submitted at the official website of AWSAR at ‘https://www.awsar-dst.in/’

The article should indicate complete research story in simple language to be understood by the general public. No complex figures, graphs, equations or formulae should be included except self-explanatory infographics which may be formulated for effective communication.

A team consisting of eminent science communicators and scientists, constituted by DST would evaluate the stories submitted.

AWSAR award Submit entries till September 30 – Only original articles sent exclusively for nomination for AWSAR award will be accepted. Articles previously published elsewhere, or simultaneously sent for publication elsewhere, are not acceptable.

The best stories would receive prizes.

Who can take part
Individual willing to take part in AWSAR contest must be Indian citizens who are pursuing PhD or Post Doctoral Fellowship in any stream of Science and Technology.

The story to be submitted must be about to research work being taken up by them currently.

The scholars should be enrolled in PhD program from Government approved Institutions for last two years. Post Doctoral Fellows (PDF) associated with any recognized institute can also apply.

The prizes

PhD Scholars
The first prize for PhD scholars who submitted the story is Rs 1,00,000.

The second prize is Rs 50,000 and third prize is Rs 25,000.

Apart from this, about 100 selected entries in the contest would get a prize of Rs 10,000 each.

Post Doctoral Fellows (PDFs)
PDF whose story is selected as outstanding story would get a prize of Rs 1,00,000.

Also, 20 selected entries would get a prize of Rs 10,000 each.

How to submit
The procedure to submit stories is online.

Individuals willing to submit stories can visit the official website of AWSAR at ‘https://www.awsar-dst.in/’ and click the appropriate link for registration.

The link for registration ‘Submit Your Story’ will be visible at the top right corner right next to the logo of AWSAR.

Also candidates can see another scrolling link ‘Submit Your Story’ below the background photograph on the website.

Applicants can click anyone of the link and start registration and obtain username and password.

Research scholars or PDFs can login with help of username and password and submit their stories.

Procedure
After clicking ‘Submit Your Story’ applicants would see a website with url ‘https://www.awsar-dst.in/member’

The left side of the webpage would have login box, where the participants of the contest have to login using username and password obtained after registration.

The right side of the webpage will have registration facility where the participants have to register by providing details like their name, email id, date of birth, mobile number and others.

Post finishing registration and obtaining username and password, applicants can login through the login box on the left side of the website ‘https://www.awsar-dst.in/member’ using the already obtained username and password and start applying for AWSAR and submit stories.

Important dates
Participants in the contest can submit stories at the official website till 30 September.

The registration and submission of stories for AWSAR was made open on 15 August.
