IIT Hyderabad turned center of attraction when it announced establishment of ANR Award for acting and performing arts.
The award is instituted by the Akkineni family through Akkineni International Foundation to honour the legacy of the legendary actor Sri Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR).
This prestigious award aims to recognize and support exceptional talent in the field of acting and performing arts, fostering creativity and innovation among aspiring artists, say sources from IIT Hyderabad.

Prof BS Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad expressed his gratitude to the Akkineni International Foundation on behalf of the IIT Hyderabad community for bestowing this honor upon the institute.
It is interesting to know that 23 faculty members of IIT Hyderabad have made it in the Top 2% Scientists of the World list released by Stanford University (SU) and Elsevier.
It is heartening that its passionate young faculty are doing exceptionally well and publishing top quality journals.
The list is divided into two categories based on career-long research (11 faculty) and based on research in 2023 (23 faculty).
This prestigious list identifies the world’s leading researchers, representing approximately 2% of all scientists worldwide.
It encompasses standardized data on citations, h-index, and a wide range of bibliometric indicators.
Dr BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman of IITH, congratulated all the faculty members for this achievement and said “the exceptional showing our commitment to groundbreaking research and our status as a global leader in the field.
This remarkable achievement highlights the talent and dedication of our researchers and faculty, he said.
IITH, established in 2008, as one of the second Generation IITs, has reached a respectable position in both academics, research, technology development and startups in the short span of 15 years.
In the recent Indian National Ranking (NIRF-2024), IITH is placed at 3rd in Innovation and 8th among Engineering institutes in India.
It has more than 320 full-time faculty, more than 5,350 students (PG + PhD students accounting for about 60%).

The institute has a strong research focus with Rs. 1250+ Cr of R&D funding, 10,600+ publications, 320+ Patents, and about 190+ startups (that have generated 1100+ jobs and a revenue of Rs. 1500+ Cr).
