The foundation stone of the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences was laid on 14 December 1980 by the then President of India Dr Neelam Sanjiva Reddy.

The Institute Of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) is one of the six institutes of Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India and comprises three faculties, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dental Sciences and Faculty of Ayurveda.

11. Madras Medical College and Government General Hospital, Chennai – 11 Rank

12. King George’s Medical University, Lucknow – 12 Rank

This institution is also popularly known as King George Medical College. NIRF 2023 ranking gave it position No 12.

The foundation stone was laid for this institution in 1906. The College was completed and the work of the first medical session was started in October 1911, though the ceremonial opening of the college building by His Honour Sir John Prescot Hewett did not occur until January 27, 1912.

Since 1922, the College and Hospital has expanded in several directions. A comprehensive museum of microscopic and macroscopic.

Pathology has been created, an X-Ray and Electro-therapeutic Section for Hospital out-patients were opened in 1928. The Dental Faculty of the college was born as a separate section of the Department of Surgery in 1949 with 10 admissions to the B.D.S. course.

It was converted into a separate Department in 1950, had a new building in 1952, started post-graduate training courses in 1964, had another new building and attained the status of a separate Faculty in 1980.

14. Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College, New Delhi – 14 Rank

VMMC was established at Safdarjung Hospital by the Government of India in November 2001. Its inauguration was done by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 17 December, 2001.

The College building was dedicated to the Nation by the Vice President M.Hamid Ansari on 20 November 2007 in the presence of the then Health Minister Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss.

The first batch of MBBS students was admitted in February, 2002. Post-graduate courses (MD/MS) in clinical subjects were running at Safdarjung Hospital even before the establishment of VMMC.

The (MD/MS) course in Pre and Para clinical subjects were started in year 2011. Over the period of time, the numbers of MD/MS seats have been increased. The College also is running super specialization.
