It was in 1985 that the college got established as a medical college. Shri Ramachandra Educational and Health Trust was the body to establish this college. It got established as a not-for-profit self-financing institution. It was 11 years after its establishment that the college got a deemed status under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. Currently, it is a private deemed university.

Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) was formerly called the Sri Ramachandra University. The college got approved by UGC and has been accredited with an A grade by NAAC. There is a medical centre and a hospital in this college. The hospital got accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) in 2018.

The motto of the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research is to provide higher values in higher education. The main aim of the college is to help medical students attain the best education in the field with utmost modern facilities.
