Agricultural Engineering

Agricultural Engineering Course 2023 Agricultural Engineering relates to the science and technology of producing food grains. It applies principles of engineering science and technology to production and processing in the field of agriculture. Here the knowledge of agriculture principles gets combined with the disciplines of animal biology, plant biology and also principles of Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Chemical Engineering. BE/B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering is a 4-year programme.

In this programme, the students basically read about the agricultural industry. The minmum age limit of the course for the students is 17 years. The admission in this course is through the entrance exams like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, KCET, GATE, COMEDK UGET, Karnataka PGCET etc.

The average fee of the students is around 2 to 5 lakhs. Agricultural engineers solve problems related to agricultural equipment, biological products, water quality and water managementlivestock facilities, food processing, and many other agricultural areas.

The different types and fields of agricultural engineering are Agricultural Machinery & Structural Design, Agricultural Technology, Waste Management, Bio Engineering, and Agricultural Resource Management.

An important point not to be missed here is that this one is a diffcult course that involves the use of maths and technical skills. After graduating from this course, the Agricultural engineers work in farming, including aquaculture (farming of seafood), forestry and food processing.

Agricultural Engineering Scope

  • Jobs in tractor-manufactures, irrigation companies, fertiliser and seed companies, and dairy firms.
  • State agriculture departments recruit Agriculture Engineers at district and sub-district levels for processing, farm mechanisation etc.
  • Postgraduates can appear for Agricultural Research Service Exam conducted by Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board to become scientists.
  • After qualifying NET one can pursue teaching at colleges and universities as a lecturer.
  • They can also work as the lecturer or professor in government or private universities or institutes.
  • They are also involved in mproving the  farm structures, agricultural farm machinery, rural electrification, new technologies in the design and manufacture of agricultural products, and bio-gas.
  • As the work experience of the canidates keep growing in this field and also if they get a master's or Ph. D. degree in agricultural engineering, their salary can go up to INR 10 lakhs to 20 lakhs per annum.
  • The graduates can get jobs in private as well as government-based industries.
