The KVPY scholarship is offered under three streams - SA, SB and SX - Stream SX, Stream SA and Stream SB. The eligibility condition for applying for the KVPY scholarship under anyone of the above three schemes are mentioned below for the sake of the students:

| Current Academic Status | Students who are studying in class 11th are eligible to apply for this course. |
| Minimum Marks in Class 10th | Students who have passed with at least 75% marks in total in science and maths subjects are eligible to apply. |
| Minimum Marks in Class 12th | Students who have passed with at least 60% marks in total |
| SX Stream | |
| Current Academic Status | Students who are studying in class 11th are eligible to apply for this course. |
| Minimum Marks in Class 10th | Students who have passed with at least 75% marks in total in science and maths subjects are eligible to apply. |
| Minimum Marks in Class 12th | Students who have passed with at least 60% marks in total |
| SB Stream | |
| Current Academic Status | Candidates who enrolled in 1st year of the UG programme/Bachelor’s course in Basic science are eligible to apply for this course. |
| Minimum Marks in Class 12th | Students who have passed with at least 60% marks in total |
The test will be conducted in online mode as a computer based test. The questions will be in multiple choice mode and the medium of the exam is english and hindi. The exam is divided into two parts and questions will be related to maths, physics, chemistry and biology taught at 10th, plus-one and plus-two levels.
