WBJEE 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must ensure that they fulfill WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2022 before applying for the exam. The eligibility criteria are completely based on factors such as nationality, age limit, domicile requirements, qualifications, and qualifying marks. 

  • Domicile- it is a must for all the Candidates to have a domicile certificate in order to apply for government participating institutes in case they are claiming for reserved category seats.
  • Nationality- Candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • Age Limit- The lower age limit is 17 years as on December 31, 2022. There is no upper age limit. However, for the Marine Engineering course, there is an upper age limit of 25 years.
  • Qualification Requirement
    For Engineering Courses: Each Candidate must have passed or appeared in class 12 with Physics and Chemistry along with any one of Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Computer Application/ Technical Vocational as the main subject.
    For Pharmacy Courses: Candidates must have passed or appeared in class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology as compulsory subjects.
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks-
    Candidates must have obtained 45% marks aggregate in the three compulsory subjects.
    For SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B and PwD candidates, this minimum qualifying marks is 40%.
    Candidates must have passed English with at least 30% marks.
    Candidates with non-formal, irregular class mode, non-class room based schooling, open school learning or distance education will not be eligible for admission through WBJEE 2020.

Category-wise Division of Questions

  • Mathematics - 50 Questions in Category 1, 15 Questions in Category 2, and 10 Questions in Category 3.

  • Physics and Chemistry - 30 Questions in Category 1, 5 Questions each in Category 2, and 3.

Mode of Answering

There will be four alternative answers for each question. The correct response has to be selected by the candidates by darkening the appropriate circle completely with blue/black ballpoint pen.

Marking Scheme

Category 1 - Each correct answer will be awarded one mark.

Category 2 - For every correct response, two marks will be given by the candidates.

Negative Marking

Category 1 - Incorrect response will yield a loss of ¼ mark

Category 2 - For each incorrect answer, ½ mark will be deducted.

Category 3 - There is no negative marking.
