The Jharkhand Government, eager to extend the academic excellence of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) across the state, requested the institute to establish an extension centre in Deoghar. BIT responded positively to this request, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was subsequently signed between the institute and the Government of Jharkhand. Consequently, the Deoghar Extension Centre of BIT began operations in October 2007, becoming the eighth campus of the institute in India. This new campus offers undergraduate programs in various engineering streams, furthering BIT's mission of providing quality education and fostering academic growth in the region.

Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Deoghar, established in 2007, is an extension centre of BIT, Mesra, offering undergraduate courses in engineering. Located in Deoghar, Jharkhand, the institute follows an offline application process and selects students based on their performance in the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main. Eligible candidates must have completed their 10+2 education from a recognized board. Admission is divided equally, with 50% of seats reserved for Jharkhand students and the remaining 50% for students from other states. The institute is administratively and academically governed by BIT, Mesra.
