Selection to Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training College is based on the Common Entrance Test conducted by the Indian Maritime University (IMU CET), followed by a Medical Examination and Interview.

Hindustan College Chennai Admission Process

• Admission to B.Tech and B.Sc is based on a Common Entrance Test conducted by the Indian Maritime University (IMU CET).
• Eligible candidates having IMU CET ranks can directly walk in to start the admission procedure depending on the availability of seats.
• Selected candidates need to pass a medical examination.
• For admission to B.Tech & B.Sc courses candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with PCM and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of minimum 60% marks and min 50% marks in Eng in Class 10th & 12th.
• For admission to B.Tech Lateral, the candidate must have passed Diploma (3 years) in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering from AICTE approved institute with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks and 50% marks in Eng in Class 10th & 12th.
• For admission to Graduate Marine Engineering, the candidate must have passed BE/B. Tech in engineering streams (Mechanica is core and the second subject is elective) or all Naval Architecture streams (Naval Architecture is the core and 2nd subject is elective) or BE/B.Tech in Marine Engineering or BE/B. Tech in Mechanical Engg or any other higher degree like 5 years integrated ME/M. Tech from AICTE approved institute.
• For admission to GP Rating, the candidate must have passed 10th passed from a recognized board with Science and Maths as subjects with 40% aggregate marks and 40% marks in Eng alone.
• For admission to ETO, the candidate must have passed 10+2 with PCM & Eng as a separate subject with min 50% marks in Eng in Class 10th & 12th and passed Diploma (3 Years) with 60% marks or passed 4 years Degree including Lateral Entry with 50% marks in EE, EEE, ECE, E&I or equivalent.
• For admission to OCCP, the candidate must have passed 10th or 12th standard from a recognized board with min 40% aggregate marks & 40% marks in English in Class 10th & 12th.

HIMT College offers attractive scholarships every year to meritorious and deserving students to encourage excellence and to make education accessible to students of all economic layers. The college offers the following scholarships:

1. Merit-Cum- Means based Scholarships.

This scholarship is in memory of Late Smt. Madhurika Suresh Vakil. Every academic year, various scholarships are awarded based on need- cum-merit to trainees who belong to a low-income group and achieve continuous meritorious academic performance. Madhurika Educational & Charitable trust has incorporated three Merit-cum-Means based scholarships for GP rating students from the year 2006 in memory of Late Smt. Madhurika Suresh Vakil. Each student undergoing the 6 months GP rating course is given a Scholarship amount of Rs. 25,000/-.

3. Best Performance Merit Scholarships: 

This scholarship is called the HIMT Award of Excellence. 

• 4 years B.Tech (ME) Course- All Batches
  For B.Tech candidates with maximum overall marks in two semesters form the academic year (without any arrears in each semester)- Rank 1 & 2 with a minimum of 75% aggregate marks. This will be finalized after the declaration of IMU results for the 2nd/4th/6th/8th Semester.

4. Benchmark setters award of Excellence- Waiver of 100% Tuition Fee

First-year students of HIMT College who obtain the highest marks in the 10+2 examinations at All India level will get 100% tuition fee waiver for the first academic year. Similarly, if the same student continues to obtain highest marks in his preferred discipline (without any arrears in each semester) in the subsequent years, then he/she will get 100% tuition fees waiver.

5. Walk-in-Walk-out Scholarships

The top 10 rank holders of any State/Central Board Examination at the Plus Two level or equivalent will be entitled to pursue any of the Pre-sea courses at 50% of the tuition fees. Similarly, if the same student continues to secure highest marks (without any arrears in each semester) in the subsequent years, then he will get 50% tuition fees waiver.

6. Sports Scholarship:

Students who have won National level prize are offered a one-time scholarship of Rs. 20,000/- in the course fees. Any student having a State level prize will be offered a one-time scholarship of Rs 10,000/- in the course fees at the time of joining or in the year he wins the National or State level prize.

7. Scholarship for Special Merits

This scholarship is for the student whose overall percentage of marks in the IMU Semester Exam shows the most improvement from Semester to semester. Such student would be given an award of Rs 5000/- (annually) each of the Nautical stream and Engineering Stream.

8. Scholarship for Indian Armed Forces

This scholarship is for students whose parent has been Martyred while in the service of Indian Armed Forces (Army, Navy or Airforce). Such students will get 50% off on tuition fees. The student must produce a confirmatory certificate from the Govt. of India.

9. HIMT Annual Scholarship award

In addition to the above scholarships, HIMT has been offering scholarships through professional associations like the Institute of Marine Engineers and Nautical Institute every year (HIMT Annual Scholarship). This scholarship is awarded to the students from an economically backward section. IME (I) & NI scholarship is open for the candidates of various institutes at All India level and Southern Part of India respectively.

10. Miscellaneous Scholarships

HIMT provides a scholarship of up to 20% of the course fees for various modular courses while undergoing the pre-sea training.

11. Female candidates's Scholarship

HIMT provides Rs 25000/- tuition fee waiver to all female candidates for all courses.

12. Life-long Scholarship

HIMT offers loyalty discounts to candidates. Candidates who have completed over 25 courses at HIMT, from cadetship to Master/Chief Engineer have been receiving scholarships up to Rs 3000/- for every course done at HIMT.

13. Post-sea Course Fee Scholarship

All pre-sea students will get 5% discount on all post sea course fees as they qualify to the rank of Management level.

14. Scholarship for Lakshadweep Native Candidates

HIMT has been a part of the Skill Development Mission for Lakshadweep administration. Native candidates of Lakshadweep can utilize this opportunity before joining the course (proof of his nativity from Lakshadweep administration will be required).

Hindustan College Chennai Campus Life

• HIMT is spread over an area of about 2,50,000 sq ft. at the outskirts of Chennai (10 km from world-famous Mahabalipuram). The pre-sea campus of HIMT comprises of all world-class facilities and includes an accommodation block, academic block and a cafeteria. The entrance of the campus is dominated by a Ganesha temple.
• The campus has all the required facilities for the students like Workshop, Computer Lab, Meals & Refreshment, Playground, Auditorium, Library, Medical, RO Plant, Banking, Laundry, Classrooms with T.V, L.C.D Projectors, Safety Video CDs, Overhead Projectors,  Instruments, Prototypes.
• HIMT has an in-campus Ship named T.S.MADHURIKA. Because of this unique concept of the in-house ship, cadets easily solve any challenge and students get hands-on experience in handling gauges, tools, instruments and to dismantling and assembling machinery.
