Bar Council of India conducts All India Bar Examination (AIBE) for individuals who have studied law and wish to commence their practice. Individuals who have studied either three year law course or 5 year law degree can apply for this exam and pass it with required score to obtain Certificate of Practice (COP). Once they obtain the COP, they can start practicing in the court of law in India.
The notification is released on the official website of AIBE at appropriate time every year. Candidates can submit applications after the notification is released. Candidates can visit the official website and click the link for registration and create an account comprisiing username and password. Post creation of account, they can login with help of password and username obtained during the registration and start filling the form, they can upload the required documents, pay the registration fees and then submit the form.
Post application form submission, applicants have to appear for a written test. The test is of three hour duration and questions to be answered are in multiple choice format. The questions asked are related to various subjects of law that are regularly taught in the educational institutions located across India.
The exact schedule, time, and mode of the test will be communicated through registered e-mail id or through other source. The exam is conducted in 11 languages - English, Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Assamese, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, and Marathi. Candidates must obtain a minimum of 38 marks (SC/ST candidates need 33 marks) out of a total of 100 marks to qualify in the exam. Candidates who pass the exam with the required score will get COPs in about six month's time and they can collect it from the respective Bar Councils of their state.
