Overview

SSC MTS is the Staff Selection Commission exam for MTS (Non-Technical) and Havaldar posts; dates for the 2026 cycle are not announced yet. The Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) Examination fills Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff posts in various departments and Havaldar posts in CBIC and CBN under the Department of Revenue. SSC's 2026 calendar lists September to November 2026 for the exam, but no MTS 2026 notice or exam schedule was on SSC's notice board by 5 October 2026; the schedule notice of 1 October 2026 covers JE, SI in Delhi Police and CAPFs, and CHSL only. Vacancies in MTS 2025

MTS vacancies are split by the age limit of the post: 18 to 25 years for most MTS posts, and 18 to 27 years for Havaldar in CBIC and CBN and a few MTS posts. SSC's vacancy notice gives region-wise and State-wise tables with category, ex-servicemen and disability splits.

Selection

The 2025 notice prescribes a Computer Based Examination for all posts and, for Havaldar in CBIC and CBN, Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test standards (listed under eligibility). SSC places tentative answer keys on its website after the examination and accepts online representations within the time limit it gives; scores from examinations held in several shifts are normalised under a notice dated 2 June 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

Criteria are from the MTS 2025 notice of 26 June 2025 (cut-off date 1 August 2025); the MTS 2026 notice will restate them.

  • Defence personnel disabled in operations during hostilities or in a disturbed area: 3 years.

  • Each session lasts 45 minutes (60 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe); Session-II starts immediately after Session-I.
  • All questions are objective multiple choice. There is no negative marking in Session-I; in Session-II 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Languages: English, Hindi and 13 regional languages for Session-I and the General Awareness section of Session-II.
  • Scores from examinations held in multiple shifts are normalised before merit and cut-offs are decided.
  • Tentative answer keys are placed on SSC's website after the examination, and candidates can submit online representations within the time limit SSC gives.

Syllabus

Numerical and Mathematical Ability

  • Integers and whole numbers, LCM and HCF, decimals and fractions, relationships between numbers, fundamental arithmetic operations and BODMAS.
  • Percentage, ratio and proportions, work and time, direct and inverse proportions, averages, simple interest, profit and loss, discount.
  • Area and perimeter of basic geometric figures, distance and time, lines and angles, interpretation of simple graphs and data, squares and square roots.

Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving

  • Alpha-numeric series, coding and decoding, analogy, following directions, similarities and differences, jumbling.
  • Problem solving and analysis, non-verbal reasoning based on diagrams, age calculations, calendar and clock.

General Awareness

  • Social studies: history, geography, art and culture, civics and economics.
  • General science and environmental studies up to the 10th standard.

English Language and Comprehension

  • Basics of English: vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and correct usage.
  • Comprehension: a simple paragraph with questions based on it.

How to Apply for SSC MTS 2026

  1. Apply online only, at ssc.gov.in or in the mySSC mobile app; complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) first if it has not been done on the new website.
  2. Fill in the Online Application Form; the photograph and signature must meet the notice's specifications (signature: JPEG, 10 to 20 KB).
  3. Pay the fee online (BHIM UPI, net banking, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay debit card) before the fee deadline.
  4. Use the correction window if needed: Rs 200 for the first correction and Rs 500 for the second, for all candidates, payable online by the same modes.
