Overview
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities for admission to five-year integrated LL.B. (undergraduate) and LL.M. (postgraduate) programmes at participating National Law Universities (NLUs). CLAT 2027 covers admissions for the 2027-28 academic year and is scheduled for Sunday, 6 December 2026. The Consortium has 26 member NLUs, and its CLAT 2027 participating-universities page lists 27 entries, including the GNLU Silvassa campus.

Participating universities and tie-break rules
Participating universities include NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR Hyderabad, NLIU Bhopal, WBNUJS Kolkata, NLU Jodhpur, HNLU Raipur and GNLU Gandhinagar, among others listed on the Consortium's site. Intake, reservation and fees are set by each NLU and given in its e-brochure. The Consortium does not allot NRI or NRI-sponsored seats; candidates approach the NLUs directly. Ties in UG are broken by higher marks in the legal aptitude section, then higher age, then a computerised draw of lots. PG ties are broken by higher age, then a draw of lots.

Eligibility Criteria
Both programmes have no upper age limit. The criteria below are from the CLAT 2027 pages of the Consortium.

- Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination must produce proof of passing at the time of admission, or they lose the right to be considered.
- A candidate without a reservation certificate may apply now but must submit it at admission, or is ineligible for the course applied for.
- Foreign nationals are not eligible and must approach the NLUs directly.

Exam Pattern
UG-CLAT 2027 has 120 multiple-choice questions of one mark each (120 marks) in 2 hours. Questions are passage-based.

- Mode and duration: offline, 2 hours for UG and PG; eligible PwD candidates sit from 2:00 pm to 4:40 pm.
- Marking: 1 mark per question and 0.25 mark deducted for each wrong answer, in both UG and PG.
- UG passages run to about 450 words. Legal Reasoning needs no prior knowledge of law. Quantitative Techniques uses 10th-standard mathematics: ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation.
- PG: 120 multiple-choice questions, 120 marks, on Constitutional Law and other areas of law such as Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labour and Industrial Law.

How to Apply for CLAT 2027
Applications are submitted online only on the CLAT 2027 website. Candidates register with a mobile number and e-mail ID, validate the mobile number with an OTP, and upload a recent photograph, a signature and, where applicable, category, PwD or BPL certificates in PDF. Once an application is submitted and paid, the programme (UG or PG), category and BPL field cannot be changed. If a candidate submits more than one form, only the last one is considered.
