About This Scholarship
The Azim Premji Scholarship is run by the Azim Premji Foundation for girls who have studied in government schools and are entering their first undergraduate degree or diploma. It pays INR 30,000 a year for the full length of the course, up to INR 1.5 lakh over a course of 2 to 5 years, and can be used for tuition fees or any out-of-pocket expense of completing the education. The Foundation states that the scholarship is not based on merit, caste, income or religion and is open to all girls who meet the eligibility conditions: Classes 10 and 12 passed as a regular student of a government school or college in an eligible State or Union Territory, and first-year admission in 2026-27 to a recognised undergraduate degree or diploma course at a government or bona fide private college or university anywhere in India.
The scholarship began in 2024-25 in over 100 districts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand and supported more than 25,000 girls. In 2025-26 it covered 18 States and one Union Territory, and the Foundation reports that 1.95 lakh girls have been supported so far. For 2026-27 Andhra Pradesh and Delhi were added, which gives 21 eligible States and Union Territories. The Foundation aims to award the scholarship to 5 lakh girls each year and expects about 15 lakh girls to be on it at any time, assuming an average course length of three years.

Applications are taken in rounds on the Foundation's scholarship portal. For the 2026 cohort the Round 1 window is closed, and application submission for Round 2 is to be done from 10 to 31 January 2027; applicants who missed Round 1 can register and upload their documents in the meantime. Recipients of the 2024 and 2025 cohorts renew from 15 September 2026. The Foundation charges no fee at any stage.

The scholarship is awarded each year for the full duration of the course. Applicants upload bank account details at the time of application, and the savings account must be active and with a scheduled commercial bank. The portal shows the status of scholarship confirmation and disbursal after login. Recipients of the 2024 and 2025 cohorts renew every year, and renewal for 2026-27 begins on 15 September 2026.
How to Apply
Application Guide
- Check the eligibility conditions and the list of eligible States and Union Territories on the Applications page of azimpremjifoundation.org.
- Keep soft copies ready in PDF, PNG or JPG format of 30 KB to 500 KB each: photograph, Aadhaar card, bank passbook first page or one-month statement, Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, and a bonafide certificate or tuition fee receipt (see the Foundation's document guidelines).
- Open the scholarship portal (https://scholarship.azimpremjifoundation.org) and select New Registrations - 2026 Cohort; applicants who are already registered use Login (Already Registered Applicants).
- Register, complete the application and upload all documents. No fee is charged at any stage.
- Submit the application in Round 2, from 10 to 31 January 2027 (the Round 1 window for the 2026 cohort is closed).
- Log in to the portal to check the application status.
- Recipients of the 2024 and 2025 cohorts use the Renewal Application link on the Foundation's scholarship page from 15 September 2026.

The Foundation states that the scholarship is not based on merit, caste, income or religion and is open to all girls who meet the eligibility criteria. Applicants register on the portal and upload their documents online, and shortlisted applicants receive scholarship confirmation and disbursal, with the status visible after login. Applications are taken in rounds: for the 2025 cohort Round 1 was in September 2025 and Round 2 in January 2026; for the 2026 cohort Round 1 has closed and Round 2 runs from 10 to 31 January 2027. The pages read do not explain how shortlisting is done beyond the eligibility conditions and the submitted documents.
