About This Scholarship
The CBSE Merit Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Child is run by the Central Board of Secondary Education, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education. It gives Rs 1,000 a month, for a maximum of two years, to girls who are the only child of their parents, passed the CBSE Class X examination with 70% or more marks and continue in Class XI and XII at a CBSE-affiliated school. The number of scholarships is not fixed: the guidelines award it to every single girl student who secured 70% or more in that year's Class X examination and meets the other conditions. Under an approval of 23 July 2012, children born together are treated as single girl children of their parents.
Gross parental or family income must not exceed Rs 8 lakh a year. The school's tuition fee must not exceed Rs 2,500 a month in Class X and Rs 3,000 a month in Classes XI and XII; the ceiling is Rs 6,000 a month for NRI applicants. The scholarship is for Indian nationals only. Renewal for Class XII needs 70% or more in the examination that decides promotion from Class XI.
The latest cycle on cbse.gov.in is the 2025 cycle. The public notice of 25 September 2025 invited fresh applications from girls who passed Class X in 2025 and renewal applications from the 2024 awardees, with 23 October 2025 as the last date. CBSE extended it twice, and the final last date for applicants was 2 December 2025, with school verification by 12 December 2025. No notice for the 2026-27 cycle had been published on 5 October 2026.

How to Apply
Application Guide
- Open the Scholarship link on https://www.cbse.gov.in/cbsenew/scholar.html and read the public notice and guidelines for the cycle.
- Open the Apply Online link listed for the cycle and log in as a student with the Class X roll number and date of birth.
- Fill in the application form and upload the first quarterly fee slip, the income certificate, a latest photograph and the first page of the bank passbook.
- Upload the parent's self-declaration on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs 10, notarised, covering family income, single girl child status and the fee paid in Class X and the present class.
- After all details and documents are accepted, an application number is generated; print the confirmation page and check the status online.
- The school logs in with its existing user ID and password and verifies the single girl child details and the uploaded documents; applications not verified by the school are rejected.
Selection Process
The scholarship follows the merit list from the CBSE Class X result: every single girl student with 70% or more in that year's examination who meets the fee, income and school conditions is eligible, so no fixed number of awards is set. For renewal, the student must have received the scholarship the previous year and scored 70% or more in Class XI. The school must verify each application, and unverified applications are rejected. The decision of the Chairperson of the Board is final.
