About This Scholarship
The Mukhyamantri Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship is a Government of Gujarat scheme running since 2023-24 under an Education Department resolution of 7 September 2023. Each year 25,000 meritorious students who complete Class 8 are chosen through a state-level test and receive scholarships for Classes 9 to 12. The State Examination Board (SEB), Gandhinagar conducts the Chief Minister Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship (CGMS) examination. The merit list, admission to Class 9 and scholarship payment are handled by the Commissioner of Schools on a separate portal.
The scheme is for students who studied continuously in Classes 1 to 8 at government or grant-aided primary schools, and for children admitted to Class 1 of self-financed schools under the 25% quota of the Right to Education Act, 2009. The Gujarat Development Programme 2026-27 gives the rates: Rs 6,000 a year in Classes 9-10 and Rs 7,000 a year in Classes 11-12 at government and grant-in-aid schools, and Rs 22,000 a year in Classes 9-10 and Rs 25,000 a year in Classes 11-12 at private schools.

How to Apply
Application Guide
- Read the SEB notification for the year on https://www.sebexam.org (for 2026, the notification dated 3 February 2026).
- The school logs in on the Samagra Shiksha Commissioner of Schools' online portal named in the 2026 notification (https://web.convegenius.ai/chat) with its school DISE code, then enters the code of any Class 8 teacher.
- Under Class 8, the list of all Class 8 students appears; the school opens each student's form in turn.
- The form is filled from the student's U-DISE data, so any error in that data is corrected before filling; the school adds the teacher and parent mobile numbers and corrects category, caste, sub-caste or medium if shown wrongly. The Board does not correct name, surname, date of birth or category afterwards.
- Save each form, then submit after all forms are saved, and print the application.
- Students download the hall ticket from sebexam.org with the confirmation number and date of birth, paste a passport-size photograph and get it signed and stamped by the school principal.
Selection Process
The CGMS examination has 120 multiple-choice questions for 120 marks in 150 minutes, in Gujarati or English. The Mental Ability Test has 40 questions for 40 marks and the Scholastic Aptitude Test has 80 questions for 80 marks (Mathematics 20, Science 20, Social Science 15, English 10, Gujarati 10, Hindi 5), on the Class 8 syllabus, with 30% competency-based questions. Candidates using a scribe get 50 extra minutes.
SEB publishes the result on sebexam.org and sends the list of students above the cut-off to the Commissioner of Schools. District education officers verify documents, a provisional merit list appears on the separate portal, and SC and ST students are included as per government norms with 50% girls in each category. Selected students take Class 9 admission in a listed school within the time limit, upload the school's certificate with the General Register number, and the Commissioner prepares the final merit list. In 2026 the first list took General students above 60 marks and SC and ST students above 55 marks; the awarding agency may lower the marks if seats remain.
