About This Scholarship
The LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme is run by the LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation, a charitable trust set up by Life Insurance Corporation of India on 20 October 2006 and registered with the Charity Commissioner under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. It gives yearly scholarships to students from economically weaker sections whose parents or guardian earn up to Rs 4.5 lakh a year. The 2026 scheme has two types: the General Scholarship for students entering the first year of a degree, diploma, vocational or ITI course after Class 12, and the Special Scholarship for students entering Class 11 or 12, a vocational, diploma or ITI course after Class 10. Both need at least 60% marks or the equivalent CGPA grade in the qualifying examination and admission in 2026-27. The scheme is not meant for postgraduate studies, except integrated courses that combine graduation and post-graduation.
Each of LIC's 112 divisional offices selects 80 General and 40 Special scholars, so the 2026 scheme is capped at 8,960 General and 4,480 Special scholarships, 13,440 in all. Applications go to a division by the applicant's PIN code and are ranked strictly by marks. The scholarship runs for the whole course, subject to minimum marks each year, and is paid by NEFT in two instalments a year.

The first instalment is due on 1 September 2026 and becomes payable on selection; the second is due on 1 February 2027 and has to be claimed with the first-semester result or an attendance certificate (a declaration is needed if the institute holds no semester exams). These rates apply to new entrants; scholars selected earlier keep the rate fixed at selection. To continue, Medicine and Engineering scholars need at least 55% and General scholars in other courses at least 50% in the previous annual or semester examination, with a pass in every subject; Special scholars need at least 50% with a pass in all subjects in the first yearly examination. Passing a subject with grace marks, or clearing a failed subject in a later semester, makes a scholar ineligible. Arrears claims made more than 12 months after the academic year are not accepted.

Selection Process
Applications are routed automatically to one of LIC's 112 divisional offices by the applicant's PIN code. Each division ranks applicants whose parental income is between Rs 0 and Rs 4,50,000 strictly by the percentage of marks in Class 12 (General) or Class 10 (Special). A tie goes to the applicant whose parents earn less; if income is also equal, an LIC officer's financial assessment report decides, and a candidate with no other scholarship is preferred over one who has it. Each division selects 40 boys and 40 girls for the General Scholarship and 20 boys and 20 girls for the Special Scholarship; slots pass to the other gender if one falls short. Divisions that fill their quota keep a waiting list, and the Foundation may allot extra slots from those lists on a central ranking, within overall limits of 8,960 General and 4,480 Special scholarships. Applications are processed in two phases, preliminary and final. Applicants who pass the preliminary assessment are asked for documents, and those who miss the time given are not considered. Marks and income are verified in person; copies authenticated by any LIC branch in-charge are accepted. The Senior Divisional Manager approves the final selection, selected candidates are told by email, and the decision of the Executive Committee of the Foundation is final.
