About This Scholarship
OASIS (Online Application for Scholarship in Studies) is the scholarship portal of the Backward Classes Welfare Department and the Tribal Development Department, Government of West Bengal. It takes applications from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) students who are permanent residents of West Bengal and study within India. The portal shows 7 schemes for the 2026-27 session, and its announcement names post-matric scholarships for SC, ST and OBC students and pre-matric scholarships for SC (including component II for hazardous occupations), ST and OBC students. As on 5 October 2026 the portal showed 11,284 registered institutions and 2,29,923 applications received. Family income must not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh a year, except for the SC component II pre-matric scheme, which has no ceiling.

Applications are made on the portal after generating a National Scholarship Portal One Time Registration (OTR) number, and the printed form and documents then go to the institution for approval. A portal notice says that under the new guidelines of the Government of India, 40 percent of the eligible amount is paid in the first phase to pre-matric and post-matric SC students and the remaining 60 percent in due course. The rate chart on the portal is dated 1 January 2024 for the SC and OBC schemes and 1 April 2025 for the ST schemes.

- One candidate can make one application; applying for any other scholarship at the same time disqualifies the student from the OASIS scholarship.
- ST students must generate the NSP OTR before applying on OASIS, as per the Ministry of Tribal Affairs guidelines quoted on the portal.

The post-matric SC scheme runs for 12 months and pays non-refundable fees subject to capping, and the OASIS-hosted PMS-SC flyer adds a 10 percent extra allowance for Divyang students. Payment is by DBT through the NPCI mapper to the Aadhaar-seeded account of the student. For pre-matric and post-matric SC students, 40 percent of the eligible amount is paid in the first phase and the remaining 60 percent in due course, as per the notice on the portal. The rate chart does not give payment dates.
How to Apply
Application Guide
- Generate an NSP One Time Registration (OTR) number: on https://scholarships.gov.in choose the OTR registration option, verify the mobile number and Aadhaar with OTPs, then complete face authentication in the NSP OTR mobile app.
- Open https://oasis.wb.gov.in and, under the Students Corner, select Student's Registration.
- Select the district where the institution is located (students studying outside West Bengal choose the district of their permanent address) and press Submit.
- Enter the caste certificate number, issue date and captcha; then enter the OTR number, Aadhaar number and captcha, and press Proceed.
- Fill the Primary Details form (father's or guardian's name, caste or sub-caste, course type, last passed examination, passing year and contact information), create a password and submit. Download the Acknowledgement Slip, which carries the Application ID.
- Use Registered Student's Login with the Application ID, password and district. Complete Step 1 (Further Details), Step 2 (Bank Details and Household Income) and Step 3 (Preview Application).
- Click Verify and Lock Application, confirm with the 4-digit OTP and download the Application Form (three pages).
- Submit the printed form with the income certificate, caste certificate and bank passbook copy to the institution for approval. Existing scholars use Renew Scholarship in the Students Corner in later years.
Selection Process
The rate chart shows no quota in any scheme, and the portal documents opened publish no merit list or percentage cut-off. Eligibility turns on category, West Bengal domicile, the Rs 2.5 lakh family income ceiling (none for SC component II pre-matric) and a pass in the previous year's final examination. The student submits the printed form with the income certificate, caste certificate and bank passbook copy to the institution for approval, and the portal has separate Institute, Block/ULB and District logins for the officials who process applications. Payment is by DBT through the NPCI mapper, with 40 percent of the eligible amount paid first to pre-matric and post-matric SC students.
