About This Scholarship
PM YASASVI (PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India) is the umbrella scholarship scheme of the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, for students of Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and Denotified Tribes (DNT). The scheme document, written for 2021-22 to 2025-26, has five parts: Pre-Matric Scholarship, Post-Matric Scholarship, Top Class School Education, Top Class College Education and Construction of Hostels for OBC Boys and Girls. The Ministry describes it as consolidating earlier OBC, EBC and DNT schemes, including the Dr Ambedkar scholarships for EBC and DNT students that were subsumed from 2021-22. Family income must not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh a year for every scholarship part.
Pre-Matric and Post-Matric are centrally sponsored: State and UT governments award them, so portals and dates differ by State. The two Top Class parts are central sector schemes handled on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). For 2026-27 NSP lists applications from 1 June 2026 to 31 October 2026 for Top Class College and for renewal under Top Class School, with institute verification until 15 November 2026 and district, State and ministry verification until 30 November 2026. NSP shows no fresh-application window for Top Class School in 2026-27.
The YASASVI Entrance Test (YET) that the National Testing Agency ran for fresh Top Class School entry was notified for 2022 and 2023. The current NSP guidelines do not mention it and rank applicants by previous-class marks, the yet.nta.ac.in site did not resolve on 5 October 2026, and no 2026-27 entrance-test notice was found.

Selection Process
Pre-Matric and Post-Matric awards are made by State and UT governments to eligible students. For Post-Matric, 30% of funds are earmarked for girl students and 5% for students with disabilities, and disbursement goes first to students of Government institutions, then aided, then unaided institutions, as funds allow.
Top Class School: slots are allotted to each State by OBC population and announced each April, and at least 30% of the scholarships are reserved for girls. Schools with a 100% pass record in Classes 10 and 12 are shortlisted by a committee chaired by the Joint Secretary (BC). A State-wise merit list is prepared for each class, for boys and girls separately, on the marks of the final examination of the previous class, and scholarships are allocated automatically on merit.
Top Class College: notified institutions receive slots per course. If more eligible students are admitted than there are slots, the scholarship goes to the top students in the inter-se merit list based on the admission criteria; on a tie for the last slot, the student with the lower family income is preferred. Other OBC, EBC and DNT students of the institution can take the Post-Matric Scholarship through the State.
