Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) is the state technical university of Uttar Pradesh, headquartered at Sector 11, Jankipuram Vistar Yojana, Lucknow. The Government of Uttar Pradesh set it up on 8 May 2000 as Uttar Pradesh Technical University under U.P. Act No. 23 of 2000. It was split into Gautam Buddha Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University on 1 May 2010 and recombined from 1 November 2013. AKTU is an affiliating university for the whole state; its About page counts 785 affiliated colleges and institutions teaching B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MCA, B.Arch, B.Pharm, BHMCT and Ph.D. programmes. NAAC graded the university A+ (CGPA 3.26) in its first cycle, with assessment visit dates of 17-19 June 2025.

Besides affiliating colleges, the university runs its own units: the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Lucknow, the Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS), the Faculty of Architecture and Planning (rank 39 in NIRF 2025, architecture and planning), the Faculty of Management and the U.P. Institute of Design at Noida. The Faculty of Management has run a two-year MBA with dual specialisation since 2022, with an intake of 60. CAS offers B.Tech and M.Tech, the latter in computer science engineering, nanotechnology, energy science and technology, mechatronics, and manufacturing technology and automation. A self-financed B.Pharm also runs on the campus. Seats in B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Pharm, BHMCT and design programmes are filled through UPTAC counselling on JEE (Main), NATA and CUET UG scores; Ph.D. admission uses the university's own entrance examination.
