About Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University, Ahmedabad
CEPT University in Ahmedabad grew out of the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, which the Ahmedabad Education Society opened in 1962 with a School of Architecture funded by Gujarat government grants. Schools of planning, building science and technology, and interior design followed in 1972, 1982 and 1991. A Gujarat State Act of 2005 made it a state private university, and the UGC recognised it under Section 2(f) in 2007. Its Kasturbhai Lalbhai Campus on University Road, Navrangpura, has buildings designed by B.V. Doshi, Rahul Mehrotra, Christopher Benninger and Gurdev Singh.
Teaching is split across faculties of architecture, planning, technology, design and management, and every undergraduate starts with the CEPT Foundation Program. Bachelor's options are B.Arch, B.Des (Hons), B.Tech (Hons) Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Urban Design, alongside 17 master's programmes and PhDs. B.Arch applicants are ranked on NATA and Class 12 marks, B.Des on UCEED and civil engineering on JEE Main, while master's candidates submit GATE, UGC NET, a management test score or the university's online PG test. In NIRF 2025 it is ranked 6th in architecture.
