About Goa University

Goa University is a state university on the Taleigao Plateau near Panaji, Goa. It was established under the Goa University Act, 1984 (Act No. 7 of 1984) and began operating on 1 June 1985, taking over from the Centre of Post-Graduate Instruction and Research that had functioned since 1962 after the liberation of Goa. The university is included under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act and holds 12B status. The campus covers 402 acres. NAAC accredited it in its fourth cycle with grade A+ (CGPA 3.30), valid up to 2030, and NIRF 2025 placed it in the State Public Universities rank band of 51-100. It is the affiliating university for 69 colleges in Goa.

Teaching on campus is organised into ten schools, including the Goa Business School, the School of Chemical Sciences, the D.D. Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies, the School of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences and the Manohar Parrikar School of Law, Governance and Public Policy. The 2026-27 prospectus lists sanctioned seats for undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programmes, mostly M.A. and M.Sc. courses with intakes from 5 seats in M.A. Portuguese to 100 in M.Sc. Chemistry, along with MBA variants, MCA, M.Com., LL.M. and Ph.D. Postgraduate admission is by rank in the Goa University Admissions Ranking Test (GU-ART) for the subject or other prescribed criteria. The Research Park GURU houses three incubators, and the university was selected under PM-USHA as a multidisciplinary education and research university in February 2024.
