About Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow
The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) is a government-financed engineering institute on Sitapur Road, Lucknow, established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1984. It began as the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of the University of Lucknow, with B.Tech programmes in computer science, electrical, and electronics and communication engineering; civil and mechanical engineering followed a year later. The institute was affiliated to the University of Lucknow from 1984 to 1999 and is now a constituent institute of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), administered by AKTU's Executive Council. The UGC has extended its autonomous status for five years, from 2023-24 to 2027-28. The residential campus occupies 100 acres.
Teaching is organised in eight departments: applied sciences and humanities, chemical, civil, computer science and engineering, electrical, electronics and communication, mechanical, and a self-finance department. B.Tech is offered in civil, chemical, computer science and engineering (regular, self-financed and AI), electrical, electronics and communication, and mechanical engineering. Postgraduate programmes are MBA, MCA and M.Tech in seven specialisations, along with Ph.D. research. IET's NIRF 2025 engineering submission reports a sanctioned intake of 480 UG and 243 PG places for 2023-24 and 304 of 515 B.Tech graduates placed that year at a median salary of Rs 6,15,000. B.Tech, MBA and MCA seats are filled through UPTAC and AKTU counselling; M.Tech seats go by GATE, CUET (PG) and an IET written test.
