About St. Xavier's College, Ahmedabad
St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Ahmedabad, is a Jesuit college in Navrangpura, affiliated to Gujarat University and established in 1955. The UGC conferred autonomous status on it in 2014, and as a Catholic-Christian minority college it reserves 50% of seats in every programme for Catholic-Christians. NAAC accredited it in 2001 with five stars, and its fourth-cycle reaccreditation in 2022 gave an A+ grade with a CGPA of 3.27. The college has been named a College with Potential for Excellence since 2006, and NIRF 2025 places it in the 101-150 band of the College category.
The college teaches Arts-Humanities, Sciences, Computer Sciences and Commerce through grant-in-aid and self-financed programmes. Under NEP 2020, applied from 2023-24, undergraduate programmes run over four years with exit points after each year, and master's programmes last two years. The 2026-27 tentative intake table lists BA programmes in Economics, English, Gujarati, Psychology, Sanskrit and Sociology, BSc programmes from Botany to Zoology plus Biotechnology, IT and AI and ML, BCA, BCom and BS Business Administration, and MA and MSc programmes including Clinical Psychology, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analytics. Admission is on merit in the qualifying examination; Semester I applicants for 2026-27 were asked to register on the state GCAS portal.
