About University of Kalyani

The University of Kalyani is a state university at Kalyani in Nadia district, West Bengal. It was established in 1960 with faculties of Arts, Science, Education and Agriculture and twelve departments. In the 1970s the Agriculture faculty became a separate university, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya. The University of Kalyani Act, 1981 came into force later, with amendments up to 2001 listed on the university website, and the university now has 62 affiliated colleges in Nadia and Murshidabad districts. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council rated it three-star in 2001, grade B in 2008 and grade A (CGPA 3.12) in December 2016. In NIRF 2025 it sits in the State Public Universities rank band of 51-100.

Teaching departments are grouped into the Faculties of Arts and Commerce, Science, Engineering Technology and Management, and Education, along with a School of Interdisciplinary Studies that covers Data Science, Genome Science and Nanoscience. The campus offers mainly postgraduate programmes: the 2025-26 notification lists 32 programmes for online admission, from M.A. in Bengali (264 seats) to M.Sc. in Mathematics (130 seats), M.Com. and M.Sc. in Computer Science.
