Overview
IMU CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test) is the entrance test that the Indian Maritime University (IMU) conducts for its maritime programmes; dates for the 2027 cycle are not announced yet. The 2026 test was held on 24 May 2026 and its results were declared on 14 June 2026. Under DG Shipping Training Circular 12 of 2020, every Maritime Training Institute regulated by DG Shipping must admit candidates on the basis of the IMU-CET rank. The rank is therefore used for IMU's campuses at Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai Port, Navi Mumbai and Visakhapatnam, for its affiliated institutes and for other DG Shipping approved institutes.

Because the UG paper was held in two shifts, IMU compiled scores with a normalisation procedure based on percentile scores. The cut-offs were notified on 17 June 2026.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility depends on the programme. The Prospectus 2026-27 sets the conditions below for the UG technical programmes (B.Sc Nautical Science, B.Tech Marine Engineering and the B.Tech Naval Architecture programmes); a valid IMU-CET rank is needed for all of them.

- SC/ST candidates get a 5% relaxation in the PCM marks requirement, but not in English.
- Candidates native to Lakshadweep or the Andaman and Nicobar Islands who belong to recognised Scheduled Tribes of the islands, and whose parents were both born there, get a 5% relaxation in English marks.
- Candidates native to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, or domiciled there for at least five years, take a separate UG technical CET held by the island administration on behalf of IMU; they register for IMU-CET only for M.Tech, MBA and research programmes.

Exam Pattern
The Prospectus 2026-27 lists three IMU-CET papers. All are objective, computer-based and carry negative marking.

- Mode: computer-based test. The UG technical, MBA and M.Tech papers are scheduled at the same time on the same date.
- Marking: 0.25 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.
- Shifts in 2026: the UG (except BBA) paper on 24 May 2026 was held in two shifts, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The prospectus had planned a single batch from 11 AM to 2 PM. Scores across the shifts were compiled with a normalisation procedure based on percentile scores.

How to Apply for IMU CET 2027
- Register on the IMU-CET portal and pay the application fee through the payment gateway. The fee is non-refundable and covers the issue of the rank certificate.
- Window 1: choose up to 8 states in which you are willing to take the test, then fill in the application form.
- Window 2: select the exam city. This window goes live for one week, 20 days before the exam, and IMU does not guarantee the choice of centre.
- Download the admit card from the IMU admission portal and carry a printed copy with a valid photo ID.
- After the exam, check the response sheet and download the rank card from the IMU website once results are declared.
- Register on the counselling portal, which opens after the rank list. Candidates entering through CAT, MAT, CMAT, GATE, CUET or PGCET scores apply only on the counselling portal and need not register for IMU-CET.
