Baba Raghav Das Medical College

Baba Raghav Das Medical College, known as BRD Medical College, is a government medical college at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, named after the freedom fighter and Sarvodaya leader Baba Raghav Das. Its foundation stone was laid on 8 November 1969 by the then chief minister, Chandra Bhanu Gupta; the first MBBS batch of 50 students was admitted in August 1972, and the teaching hospital, Nehru Hospital (Nehru Chikitsalaya), opened in August 1974. The campus covers 147.6 acres, and the hospital's bed distribution lists 950 beds with a further 100-bed ward. It is affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow. Nehru Hospital recorded 660,372 outpatient and 91,876 inpatient registrations in 2024.

NMC's approved intake for 2026-27 is 150 MBBS seats. Its postgraduate seat matrix for the year approves 110 MD and MS seats: MD in General Medicine (15), Anaesthesiology (12), Pathology (12), Paediatrics (7), Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology and Community Medicine (5 each), Dermatology, Psychiatry and Radiology (3 each), and MS in General Surgery (12), Obstetrics and Gynaecology (10), Orthopaedics (5), Ophthalmology (5) and ENT (3). It also approves 12 postgraduate diploma seats in Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Dermatology. Admission to MBBS is through NEET-UG, with counselling by the Directorate General of Medical Education and Training, Uttar Pradesh, for state seats and by MCC for all-India seats; MD and MS admission is through NEET-PG counselling.
