About Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University
Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), formerly Kanpur University, is a state university in Kanpur. The Uttar Pradesh government established it in 1966 as Kanpur University under the Kanpur and Meerut Universities Act 1965. It is both a teaching and an affiliating university; its history page counts about 700 affiliated colleges in seven districts. The campus at Kalyanpur beside GT Road covers 264 acres. NAAC accredited the university at grade A++ (CGPA 3.57) in its third cycle in 2023, valid until 24 November 2028, after B+ in 2006 and B in 2015. The university calls itself a UGC Category-I university, and NIRF 2025 lists it in the pharmacy category in the rank band 102-125.
On its own campus CSJMU runs schools of engineering and technology (UIET), pharmaceutical sciences, business management, legal studies, health sciences, basic sciences, life sciences, languages, hotel management, agriculture, teacher education, arts and humanities, and performing arts. Programmes include B.Tech in computer science, electronics and communication, chemical, mechanical and metallurgical engineering, BCA, MCA, B.Pharm, M.Pharm, BBA, MBA, B.Com. (Hons.), BA LLB (Hons.), LLM, B.Ed., M.Ed., B.PT, M.PT and M.Sc. in several sciences, besides Ph.D. B.Tech seats are filled by JEE (Main) rank through the university's B.Tech counselling portal; other programmes are admitted through merit registration on the admission portal, with separate entrance tests for MCA, B.Pharm, LLM and M.Ed.
