Yes. The Ministry of Education declared GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam, an institution deemed to be university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, by notification No. 9-13/2024-U.3(A) dated 19 January 2026, published in the Gazette of India on 14 February 2026. It now runs as GMRIT (Deemed to be University) and admits students directly rather than through JNTU Kakinada.

Apply online (Rs 500) and qualify through JEE Main, a state CET or GMRIT's own GMRCET, or with at least 50% in Class 12, then attend the student interaction. The 2026-27 intake is 1,200 B.Tech seats across nine branches. The 2027 schedule had not been published on 15 October 2026.

For 2026-27 UG admissions: 100% scholarship for JEE Main 2026 above the 97th percentile or a CET rank up to 2,500; 75% for 95-97 percentile, CET 2,501-5,000 or 97% in a state board (92% CBSE/ICSE); 50% for 90-95 percentile or CET 5,001-10,000; 25% for 85-90 percentile or CET 10,001-20,000; 15% and 10% for CET ranks up to 60,000 or Class 12 marks from 75% (70% CBSE). Sports achievers also qualify.

For first-year students in 2026-27 the annual hostel fee is Rs 1,10,000 for a three-bed shared non-AC room (Rs 1,35,000 for a premium AC room) and Rs 90,000 for a six-bed room (Rs 1,15,000 AC), with a Rs 5,000 refundable caution deposit and Rs 5,000 off for paying in one go. College buses run from Srikakulam and other towns at separate fees.

GMRIT's placement page lists 73 recruiting organisations for the 2026 batch, with Infosys making the most offers (262) and a highest package of Rs 37 lakh a year; the 2025 batch had 68 organisations and a highest package of Rs 22 lakh. The 2026-27 brochure states a highest package of Rs 43 lakh without naming the batch.

GMR Institute of Technology holds a NAAC A grade (CGPA 3.06) from its third cycle, awarded on 20 October 2021 and valid up to 19 October 2026; it was given to the institute as a JNTU Kakinada-affiliated college. In NIRF 2025 it is in the 201-300 band for Engineering.

M.Tech (CSE, VLSI and embedded systems, transportation, thermal, power and industrial drives; 12 seats each) and M.Sc (applied mathematics, condensed matter physics, organic chemistry; 30 seats each) admit candidates who qualify in GATE, a CET or GMRCET, or who have 50% in the qualifying degree. Fees for 2026-27 are Rs 30,000 a semester for M.Tech and Rs 25,000 for M.Sc.

GMRIT (Deemed to be University) admits B.Tech students who qualify in JEE Main, a state CET or its own GMRCET, or who have at least 50% in Class 12, followed by a student interaction; M.Tech and M.Sc students qualify in GATE, a CET or GMRCET, or have 50% in the degree. GMRIT (Deemed to be University), Rajam offers 19 programmes in Engineering, Science and Commerce, including Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Bachelor of Commerce.

Depending on the course, admission to GMRIT (Deemed to be University), Rajam is through JEE Main, AP EAPCET, GMRCET, GATE and AP PGECET.
