About Malla Reddy Deemed to be University
Malla Reddy (MR) Deemed to be University (MRDU) is the successor of Malla Reddy Engineering College, which the CMR Educational Society opened in 2002 at Maisammaguda in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district near Hyderabad. On the advice of the UGC, the Ministry of Education declared the college an institution deemed to be a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, by notification No. 9-5/2025-U.3(A) dated 20 February 2025. Before that it was an autonomous college affiliated to JNTUH. AICTE's 2026-27 approval letter records the change of name. The university reports NAAC A++ (Cycle III) and NBA accreditation, valid July 2024 to June 2027, for six undergraduate programmes and the MBA. NIRF 2025 placed it in the 201-300 band of Engineering under the old college name.
Teaching sits in seven schools, including computer science and engineering, electronics and electrical engineering, civil and mechanical engineering, management and technology, and computer applications. AICTE approved a 2026-27 intake of 960 B.Tech seats in Computer Science and Engineering, 720 each in its AI and ML and Data Science variants, 180 in Electronics and Communication and 120 in Cyber Security, with 300 MBA seats and five M.Tech specialisations. The 2025-26 disclosure reports 520 permanent faculty and a faculty-student ratio of 1:20.
