Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences

Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) is a government university and tertiary-care hospital at Punjagutta, Hyderabad. The institute began in 1961, and the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1989 (Andhra Pradesh Act No. 13 of 1989, assented to by the Governor on 27 April 1989) established it by law and conferred university status on it. Its information sheet for the National Medical Commission lists it as recognised for postgraduate courses, with MBBS shown as not applicable. The course pages restrict admission to candidates from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and the 2026 notice for the bachelor's programmes invites Telangana State candidates only.

NIMS lists 11 MD/MS specialities with 94 sanctioned seats on its NMC list, and its 2025-26 prospectus lists 16 DM and M.Ch specialities with 83 seats, all of three years, in fields such as Anaesthesiology, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Urology and Neurosurgery. Other programmes are the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (50 seats), B.Sc Nursing (100 seats), B.Sc Allied Health Sciences (100 seats across 11 courses), the Master of Physiotherapy, the Master in Hospital Management (20 seats) and the M.Sc in Genetic Counselling. MD/MS admission is on NEET PG rank, DM/M.Ch admission on NEET-SS rank, and the nursing, physiotherapy and allied health degrees on Telangana State EAPCET rank.
