Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute

Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute (UPTTI), formerly the Government Central Textile Institute, is a Government of Uttar Pradesh institution at Souterganj, Kanpur. Its history page dates the start to 1914, when a School of Dyeing and Printing began at Kanpur. The Government Textile School of Thomson Civil Engineering College, Roorkee, moved to the Kanpur campus in 1923, and the two were merged in 1937 as the Government Central Textile Institute. Degree teaching began in 1958 with B.Tech Textile Technology and Textile Chemistry. The institute became autonomous and took the name UPTTI in 2006, and the institute's history page records academic autonomy from UGC (2012, implemented from 2016-17). It is affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow, and AICTE lists it as a government institution.

Five four-year B.Tech programmes are offered, with sanctioned intakes of 40 in Textile Technology, 60 in Textile Chemistry, 60 in Man Made Fibre Technology, 40 in Textile Engineering and 60 in Computer Science and Engineering (started 2024). The postgraduate programmes are M.Tech Textile Technology (12 seats) and M.Tech Textile Chemistry (18 seats), alongside a Ph.D programme. Weaving, spinning, dyeing, man-made fibre, knitting and mechanical workshops are part of the campus facilities. B.Tech admission is through UPTAC counselling on JEE Main scores; M.Tech admission is through AKTU counselling or an institute-level entrance test. The institute's placement record for the 2025-26 batch lists 44 students, all 44 shown as placed (four of them opting for higher studies), with a highest package of Rs 12 lakh per annum.
