Coimbatore Institute of Technology

Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) is a government-aided autonomous engineering institution on Civil Aerodrome Post, Avinashi Road, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The V. Rangaswamy Naidu Educational Trust launched it in 1956, and it has held autonomous status since 1987 under Anna University, Chennai, to which it is permanently affiliated. UGC lists it under Sections 2(f) and 12(B), AICTE regulates its approved intake, and NBA has accredited several undergraduate programmes. In its second cycle, NAAC accredited the institute with a CGPA of 3.09 (A grade) on 29 May 2025, valid to 28 May 2030. NIRF 2025 placed it in the 101-150 rank band in the Engineering category.

The undergraduate programmes are B.E. in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication and Computer Science and Engineering, and B.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. A B.E. in Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology) is shown as awaiting approval for 2026. Postgraduate programmes are the M.E. in Construction Management, MBA, MCA and four five-year integrated M.Sc. degrees in Software Systems, Data Science, Decision and Computing Sciences, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Ph.D. registration is open in seven engineering disciplines, full-time and part-time, and part-time in Applied Chemistry. First-year B.E./B.Tech seats are filled through Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) counselling, with separate application forms for aided and self-supporting seats.
