Government College for Girls, Ludhiana

Government College for Girls, Ludhiana is a government college for women at Rakh Bagh, Bharat Nagar Chowk, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, Punjab, affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. It was founded in 1943 under its first principal, Miss Suda Sen, with 25 students and six teachers in a small bungalow, and has occupied its present building since 1953; the campus now covers 45 acres. The college is recognised under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, and NAAC accredited it at grade A (CGPA 3.22 on a four-point scale) in its third cycle, valid from 29 February 2024 to 28 February 2029. It has 30 classrooms, 22 laboratories, four computer labs, a library of more than 65,000 books and a hostel for 250 students.

Undergraduate programmes are B.A. (with honours options), B.Sc. (Medical and Non-Medical), B.Com., B.Com. (Tax Planning and Management), BCA, BBA and a B.Voc. in Global Professional in Beauty and Aesthetics; B.A. Part I has 630 seats in 2026-27. Postgraduate programmes are M.A. in Punjabi, Fine Arts and Music Instrumental, M.Com., M.Sc. Botany and M.Sc. Cosmetology and Health Care, with a PG Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics and a PGDCA. Departments range from Economics, Fine Arts, Home Science and Indian Classical Dance to Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Computer Science and Applications and Business Administration. Admission to most classes is on merit through the Punjab government's centralised online portal; M.Sc. Botany admission is based on the CET (PG) conducted by Panjab University.
