About Tagore Medical college and Hospital The Tagore Education Trust, formed in 1997 by Professor M. Mala, is committed to providing high-quality education in the fields of Medicine, Engineering, and Humanities. One of the institutions established by the Trust is the Tagore Medical College and Hospital, which began its operations in the academic year 2010-2011. The Government of Tamil Nadu granted an Essentiality certificate on September 15, 2009, allowing the establishment of a medical college with 150 seats, subject to the approval of the Government of India and the Medical Council of India. The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, granted provisional affiliation for the MBBS degree course, with an annual intake of 150 students, starting from the academic year 2010-2011. The provisional affiliation has been continued by the university in subsequent academic years. The Government of India, through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, conveyed approval for the establishment of the new medical college by the Tagore Educational Trust. The approval allowed for an annual intake of 150 students starting from the academic year 2010-2011. The Medical Council of India also approved the renewal of permission for the admission of the second batch of 150 MBBS students at Tagore Medical College and Hospital for the academic year 2011-2012. The permission for renewal is granted every academic year. Furthermore, during the academic year 2015-16, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, recognized the award of MBBS degrees by the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University for students trained at Tagore Medical College and Hospital, with an annual intake of 150 students. This recognition was conveyed through a notification dated April 17, 2015 (Notification No. U 12012/224/2015/ME PII).
