About Thiruvalluvar University

Thiruvalluvar University is a state university at Serkadu, about 16 km from Vellore city on the Ranipet-Chittoor trunk road in Tamil Nadu. The Government of Tamil Nadu established it on 16 October 2002 under the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002 (Tamil Nadu Act 32 of 2002). The University Grants Commission included it in its list of universities in April 2003 and cleared it under Section 12(B) on 24 January 2014. Teaching began on the Fort campus in Vellore with three departments, and the university moved to the 112.68-acre Serkadu campus in 2010. NAAC graded it B in its first cycle in 2018 and B+ on re-assessment in 2020.

The 2025 site lists 13 teaching departments, among them Tamil, English, Economics, Commerce, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Environmental Science and Sociology, and states that 74 colleges in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts are affiliated to the university. The 2025-26 admission brochure offers two-year M.A., M.Com., M.Sc., MBA and M.Lib.I.Sc. programmes for graduates, five-year integrated master's programmes after Class 12, one-year PG diplomas such as Communicative English and Industrial Safety, and three-year B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Data Science and B.Voc (Immersive Technology) degrees. Ph.D. programmes run in seven departments. Admission follows Tamil Nadu government guidelines through an online application.
