Master of Surgery
Master of Surgery (MS) is a three-year postgraduate medical degree regulated by the National Medical Commission that trains MBBS graduates for specialised surgical practice. Spread across six semesters, the programme combines advanced coursework, supervised operative training, outpatient and ward duties, and a research thesis in the chosen surgical specialty, such as General Surgery or Orthopaedics. Admission is through NEET-PG followed by counselling, rather than a fixed percentage cut-off. MS builds the clinical judgement, operative skill and academic grounding required for independent surgical practice and for later super-specialisation. It suits MBBS graduates who have completed their compulsory internship and want a career as a specialist or academic surgeon.
