Overview

The Diploma-Certificate Entrance Competitive Examination (DCECE) is conducted by the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECE Board), Patna, for admission to engineering diploma courses in the polytechnics of Bihar and to para medical courses. The 2026 edition, DCECE (PE/PMM/PM), had three course groups: PE (all engineering diploma courses), PMM (para medical, matric level: Dresser) and PM (para medical, intermediate level, including Diploma in Pharmacy, GNM and ANM nursing, laboratory, X-ray, operation theatre and dental courses). It also fills 50% of the seats in recognised non-government para medical institutions. The Board itself is widely called BCECE, but this exam is its diploma-level test. No 2027 notice has been published yet, so the facts below come from the 2026 prospectus.

Other exams run by the BCECE Board

The Board's 2026 prospectuses and home page show several other examinations. BCECE-2026 (Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination) was a separate test for first-year professional degree courses such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, B.Sc. Nursing, pharmacy, agriculture and horticulture, with 400-mark subject papers in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology and agriculture and 1 mark deducted for each wrong answer. It was proposed for 30 and 31 May 2026. BCECE[LE]-2026 and DECE[LE]-2026 are lateral-entry exams, for engineering, para medical or pharmacy diploma holders and for 10+2 vocational or ITI-trained candidates respectively. The home page also lists ITICAT-2026, counselling portals named UGEAC, UGMAC, PGEAC, PGMAC, PGPAC and PGDAC, and recruitment portals.

  • Residence: only Indian citizens whose parent or spouse is a Bihar native, a registered refugee in Bihar, or a Bihar, central government or United Nations employee posted in Bihar.
  • Candidates appearing in the 2026 Class 10 or 12 exam may apply but must show a pass result by counselling or the merit-list stage.
  • Selected candidates undergo a medical examination for a separate fee. Government women's polytechnics admit women only.
  • Reservation for Bihar residents: SC 16%, ST 1%, EBC 18%, BC 12%, reserved-category girls 3%, EWS 10%, 40% unreserved; 5% of seats for persons with disabilities; one seat per branch in each polytechnic for children of Bihar serving or ex-servicemen.

The PE and PMM papers are at matric level; in the PM paper, Hindi, English and General Knowledge are at intermediate level and General Science and Numerical Aptitude at matric level.   • Applicants choose the groups they qualify for and pay by the number of groups; they sit only the papers of the groups chosen.
  • Merit lists are made group-wise and category-wise from marks in the group's paper, and seats are filled by merit-cum-option counselling, online or offline.
  • Ties: PE uses the mathematics section marks, then physics, then the older candidate; PMM uses biology, then chemistry, then age; PM uses General Science, then Numerical Aptitude, then age.
  • OMR sheet: candidates copy the passage printed on its back in their own handwriting with a blue or black ball-point pen and sign in Hindi and English; otherwise the answer sheet is cancelled.
