CLAT 2027: Application Form, Exam Date, Admit Card, Result

The CLAT 2027 application form is filled online only, on the Consortium of National Law Universities' website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Applications opened on 3 August 2026 and close on 31 October 2026 at 11:59 pm: the form must be complete and paid by then, and an incomplete form is not considered. The status box at the top of this page shows whether the form is still open.

How to fill the CLAT 2027 form, step by step

1. Register on the CLAT 2027 website with your own mobile number and email ID. An OTP is sent to the mobile number to validate it.
2. Log in with the registered mobile number and the password you set at registration.
3. Fill the form. Choose the programme (UG or PG) and your category carefully, and spell your name and your parents' names exactly as they appear in your certificates, marksheets and identity proof: a mismatch can disqualify the application.
4. Upload the documents listed below, in PDF.
5. Pay the application fee online and submit.

Documents to upload

• A recent, front-facing passport-size photograph with a plain background
• Your signature
• Category certificate, if you apply under SC, ST or OBC
• PwD certificate from the competent authority, if you apply under the PwD category
• BPL certificate from the competent authority, if you apply under the BPL category

All documents are uploaded as PDF, and the photograph and signature need not be attested. Original certificates are given to the allotted university at admission, in the form it asks for. If you don't have a reservation certificate yet, you may still apply, but you must produce it at admission or lose the reserved seat.

CLAT 2027 application fee

The fee is paid online only, bank transaction charges are extra, and it is neither refundable nor adjustable.

Rules to know before you pay

• Once the form is submitted and paid, the programme, the category and the BPL field cannot be changed, and no changes are taken after the closing date.
• If you submit more than one form, only the last one is considered, and the fee for the earlier ones is not refunded.
• Students appearing in the Class 12 (or LL.B. for PG) examination in 2027 may apply, but must show proof of passing at admission.
• Foreign nationals cannot take CLAT and apply to the NLUs directly; NRI and NRI-sponsored seats are also handled by each NLU, not through CLAT counselling.

Both programmes have no upper age limit. The criteria below are from the CLAT 2027 pages of the Consortium.

• Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination must produce proof of passing at the time of admission, or they lose the right to be considered.
• A candidate without a reservation certificate may apply now but must submit it at admission, or is ineligible for the course applied for.
• Foreign nationals are not eligible and must approach the NLUs directly.

UG-CLAT 2027 has 120 multiple-choice questions of one mark each (120 marks) in 2 hours. Questions are passage-based.

• Mode and duration: offline, 2 hours for UG and PG; eligible PwD candidates sit from 2:00 pm to 4:40 pm.
• Marking: 1 mark per question and 0.25 mark deducted for each wrong answer, in both UG and PG.
• UG passages run to about 450 words. Legal Reasoning needs no prior knowledge of law. Quantitative Techniques uses 10th-standard mathematics: ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation.
• PG: 120 multiple-choice questions, 120 marks, on Constitutional Law and other areas of law such as Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labour and Industrial Law.

The CLAT 2027 admit card (hall ticket) is downloaded by logging in to your CLAT account on the Consortium's website; it is not posted. The Consortium announces the exact date on its website. In the 2026 cycle the steps were: log in to your CLAT account, then click 'Download Admit Card'. The same steps were used when a test centre changed after admit cards were out, so check your account and email in the days before the exam.

• Exam: Sunday, 6 December 2026, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, offline (pen and paper); 2:00 pm to 4:40 pm for eligible PwD candidates. The Consortium says the date is subject to revision if necessary.
• Test centre: as printed on your admit card. The Consortium can cancel a city or centre and move candidates to another one if needed.
• In the 2026 paper: 120 questions in a 40-page question booklet with an OMR answer sheet; 1 mark for each right answer and 0.25 deducted for each wrong one, none for unanswered questions. Electronic devices such as phones and digital watches are not allowed. You may keep the question booklet and your copy of the OMR sheet.

A few days after the exam the Consortium publishes the question booklets with the provisional answer keys, and candidates can object to a question or an answer. It then publishes the final answer key and the results. The 2026 cycle shows how it runs:

How to object to the answer key

1. Log in to your CLAT account and click 'Submit Objections'.
2. Choose your question booklet series (the symbol at the bottom right of the booklet cover) and the type of objection: about the answer key or about the question.
3. Pick the question number, explain the objection and submit it. Use the question numbers of your own booklet series, or the objection is not considered.
4. Pay the fee once all objections are entered: Rs 500 per objection in 2026, refunded to the same account if the objection is upheld.

Objections sent by email, support ticket or phone are not considered.

Result and scorecard

Scorecards are downloaded from your CLAT account; in 2026 there was also a mirror site for results. If a question is withdrawn, the paper is marked out of fewer marks: in 2026 one UG question was withdrawn, so UG was marked out of 119, and the highest UG score was 112.75. When candidates have the same marks, the tie is broken by higher marks in the legal aptitude (legal reasoning) section, then by higher age, then by a computerised draw of lots.

After the results, the Consortium runs a central admissions counselling for the participating NLUs; the CLAT 2027 FAQs put it in December 2026 or January 2027. Eligible candidates are invited by email, SMS and on their CLAT account, according to the rank list and each NLU's seat matrix. The 2026 process, which the 2027 one is expected to follow until the Consortium publishes its own instructions:

1. Register and fill NLU preferences: at least 15 for UG and 5 for PG. You are considered only for the NLUs you list, so list every NLU you would join. Preferences can be changed until registration closes.
2. Pay the counselling registration fee: Rs 30,000 for General candidates and Rs 20,000 for SC, ST, OBC, BC, EWS and PwD candidates in 2026. It is refundable under the rules below.
3. Allotment lists: five rounds in 2026. For each seat allotted, you choose Freeze, Float or Exit within the round's deadline, paying the confirmation fee to Freeze or Float. A candidate who does nothing loses the seat and drops out of later rounds.
4. Pay the rest of the university fee to the NLU by its deadline, after the registration and confirmation fees are adjusted.

Refund of the registration fee (2026 rules)

• Refunded in full if you get no seat by the end of the fifth round, or exit without having chosen Freeze or Float.
• After a Freeze or Float up to the fourth round, exiting or not completing admission refunds it in full before 1:00 pm on 8 May 2026, and with Rs 5,000 deducted after that.
• Rs 5,000 is deducted if an NLU finds you ineligible on document verification, or if you withdraw after taking admission later than 30 May 2026.
• The confirmation fee is adjusted against the NLU's fee if you join, and is not refunded if you exit, miss the fee deadline or are found ineligible.

Documents for counselling (UG)

Class 10 marksheet and the CLAT admit card (both mandatory), the Class 12 marksheet, a character or conduct certificate and a transfer or migration certificate from your last institution, and, where you claim them, the caste, PwD or SAP, domicile and other category certificates. PG candidates also need the LL.B. marksheet. After the fifth round the central process closes; NLUs may then fill any vacant seats under their own rules.

The Consortium has 26 member National Law Universities, and its CLAT 2027 list of participating universities has 27 entries, counting the Gandhinagar and Silvassa campuses of GNLU separately. Each NLU's intake, reservation policy, courses and fees are in its brochure, linked from the Consortium's list; read them before filling preferences. Several affiliate universities and organisations also use CLAT scores for their own admissions or recruitment.

NLU Delhi is not on the list: it admits through its own test, AILET.

The Consortium's own material is the best practice:

• Previous years' papers: you can buy them for Rs 500 with the CLAT application, on top of the application fee.
• Last year's papers with answers: the Consortium's notice on objections to the provisional answer key publishes every series of the question booklet and the provisional answer key, for UG and PG. The CLAT 2026 notice of 10 December 2025 has all four UG and four PG sets.

The current affairs section has no fixed time frame, according to the Consortium. Practise on a 2-hour clock with an OMR sheet, since the exam is on paper, and remember the 0.25-mark penalty for each wrong answer.
