JEE Main Result, NTA Score and Percentile
JEE Main is held in many shifts, so NTA does not rank raw marks. Each candidate's marks are turned into an NTA score, a percentile within their own shift:
NTA score = 100 x (candidates in the shift who scored the same or less) / (candidates who appeared in the shift)
A 99 percentile means you did as well as or better than 99% of your shift. NTA scores are given to seven decimal places, for each subject and in total. If you take both sessions, the better of your two total NTA scores counts, and the All India Rank is declared after Session 2.
Ties on the total NTA score are broken by the NTA score in Mathematics, then Physics, then Chemistry, then by the lower ratio of wrong to right answers overall, then in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Candidates still tied after that share a rank.
JEE Main percentile vs rank
Approximate rank = (100 - percentile) x 15,38,468 / 100, where 15,38,468 is the number of candidates who sat Paper 1 in 2026 (both sessions, each counted once). Actual ranks differ a little, because percentiles are worked out shift by shift and candidates tie.
| NTA percentile | Approximate All India Rank (2026 numbers) |
|---|---|
| 99.99 | 154 |
| 99.9 | 1,538 |
| 99.5 | 7,692 |
| 99 | 15,385 |
| 98 | 30,769 |
| 97 | 46,154 |
| 96 | 61,539 |
| 95 | 76,923 |
| 93.41 | 1,01,385 |
| 90 | 1,53,847 |
| 85 | 2,30,770 |
| 80 | 3,07,694 |
NTA does not publish a marks-to-percentile table: the same marks give a different percentile in an easy shift and a hard one.
The score card shows your name as on the Class 10 certificate. It is downloaded from the JEE Main website, not posted.
