How ranks and counselling work
Ranks follow the total marks out of 1,000 across the four subjects. A candidate with zero or negative marks in Mathematics, or in total, is disqualified. Ties are broken by higher Mathematics marks, then marks in Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning, then in Computer Awareness, then by older age, and finally by computer random sampling. Qualified candidates apply for online counselling, fill institute choices and pay a Rs 1,000 counselling registration fee; an allotted seat needs a Rs 10,000 seat acceptance fee. After an allotment a candidate can float to the next round, freeze the seat and pay an additional partial admission fee, or withdraw. The 2026 process had three general rounds and a special round for vacant seats.
